Nintendo will soon start a Youtube affiliate program
Will Nintendo take it chill with the copyright flagging on Youtube now?
Talk about great timeing. Because back in the days. Nintendo used to flag people like crazy on Youtube. You know, for uploading gameplay videos, interviews and reviews for some of Nintendos games. I actually heard something about Nintendo using a "auto flagging" system on Youtube.
Which basically means that Nintendo flagged everything and everyone on Youtube, IF they made a video based on a Nintendo product (or service). I don´t know if that true or not. But i have heard quite a few Nintendo Vs Youtube stories over the years (Google "Totalbiscuit Copyright Strikes").
And today i actually recorded my very first Nintendo DS video (Aliens: Infestation). Which made me a bit jumpy, because of the deal with Nintendo and flagging people on Youtube. But now it seems like Nintendo will take it chill on that front from now on.
I´m of course talking about the "Youtube affiliate program". Because Nintendo told Gameinformer the following:
"Nintendo has been permitting the use of Nintendo copyrighted material in videos on YouTube under appropriate circumstances," a representative told us via email. "Advertisements may accompany those videos, and in keeping with previous policy that revenue is shared between YouTube and Nintendo. In addition, for those who wish to use the material more proactively, we are preparing an affiliate program in which a portion of the advertising profit is given to the creator. Details about this affiliate program will be announced in the future."
In other words, Nintendo has finally realized that they shouldn't bite the hand that feeds them (fans, consumers and video creators). So "hopefully" my (our) Aliens: Infestation video won´t get flagged by Nintendo now.
And IF we make money on that video, we are open to share it with Nintendo.
